TALKING PICTURES: My Ebook. Watch the overview video!!!!

Hello again friends.

As you will have read in my last post, I have along with poet Bina Gupta, released an ebook. People have been very kind with their comments so far and we've been honored and humbled by the response. Thank you to all of you.

I thought I would make a video overview of the ebook, so that you will have a better idea of what it's about and how it came about. So, my friends, here's the video. I hope you enjoy it and it prompts you to take a look at the ebook itself.
Hope you enjoyed the video. If, now that you've seen what a great book this is, you would like to purchase your own copy, it's only $US3, and you can get it here. Oh, by the way, it's a PDF file so you can read it on any device.

Thank you for watching and for all your support.

BIG NEWS!!! My first ebook is out!

This image my friends is the cover of the first ebook of my photographs. It is co-authored with a wonderful New York poet Bina Gupta. I don't want to brag, but it's only been out in the world for a couple of days now and already it is doing really rather well. And I am so grateful for that.

Just so you know what it's all about, here is the promotional description from one of the places it's listed with:
Born from a meeting on social media,Talking Pictures: Poemlets & Moments from the Street is the result of a collaboration between Paul Donohoe, a Social Documentary and Street Photographer, and Bina Gupta a poet and writer. Paul posted his street photos online and Bina began commenting on them. Her succinct and insightful observations added much to the story telling power of the photographs. These observations take various forms: small poetic verses sometimes, other times simply a little quote (her invention of course!) in the voice of the subjects in the photograph. Bina's words demonstrate a fine-tuned ability for observing humanity with compassion and empathy, while Paul's photographs are a celebration of humanity in its beauty and its flaws. Witty, full of charm and often mysterious, this is a book that will bring a smile to many, a tear to some and give pause for reflection to all.
So, there you are. It's a great event for us and I hope for many others too who will see the book. We are proud of the end result. It's been a great privilege collaborating with Bina on this project. She really is a fine poet and short story writer. You really should check her site for some great poetry and stories.

If you would like a copy, it is for sale at a very small price of $US2 right here.

Thank you all for your ongoing support of me and my work. It's made all the difference.

Peace

PICK OF THE WEEK: Some news!

Waiting on City Steps (Lisbon June 2013)

I know, I know, I missed the Pick of the Week last week. But I have a good reason. Really. You see,  I've been working very hard on putting together an ebook. My first actually. Well, not just mine: it's a collaboration with a friend in New York City and it's been in the works for a year or so now. But, just lately the time seemed to be right, and the thing just came together, almost of its own accord.

What's the book about? Well it's a collection of my street photos alongside little poems, quotes and other insightful words from my friend. Who, by the way, is a truly exceptional poet and keen observer of the human condition.

But, the book is not quite ready to be born and sent out into the world on its own. In the meantime, this week's Pick is the image that, for now, is on the cover. I thought it rather appropriate as the book is really about reflections on people, on relationships. Well on life really. And, here in this photograph, a woman does seem to be deep in thought as she sits on steps in Lisbon.

So, please stay tuned for the book. It's going to be in PDF format so will be easily accessible for everyone and on all devices. I'm excited by the project, as is my co-author. I hope you will be too.

Peace

PICK OF THE WEEK: Tee Shirts and Body Language

Hands Reaching (Katoomba Australia May 2014)

Tee shirts and body language. Two of the alert street photographer's best friends. Now, one does see some funny or interesting or even surprising tee shirts on the streets now and again. And, also now and again, one sees interesting or eye-catching body language on the streets. It's when the two come together that really excites the attention of the alert street photographer.

Sometimes it's the tee shirt that attracts my attention. And sometimes it's the body language. In this instance (today on the street here in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains of Australia), this couple caught my eye as they were both dressed in black. Then when the boy raised his hand, my camera went to my eye in a flash. It was only then as I looked through the viewfinder, that I noticed the girl's tee shirt.

Of course by the time this thought made its way through my brain, the shutter had been pushed and the photograph made. Later, on my laptop screen and converted into black and white, I noticed how much of a mirroring there is between the boy's upraised and half-mittened hand and the skeletal hands on the girl's tee shirt. It was a bit cold today but not cold enough for mittens (half or otherwise), so here we have two fashion statements that work together to make, what I think, is a compelling street photograph.

More than this, it is a nice observation of humanity on a number of levels. For me it is a compelling image, as I said. It's also a very human scene: friends dressed in similar styles, one happily greets another friend out of frame. It's also humorous and I like it. That's essentially why it is this week's Pick.

Peace
