Getting Out of the House for a Couple of Hours: It's Tough!

A View to the Funfair (Sydney Australia June 2016)

For the last few weeks we've been staying in an apartment a little to the left of where this frame ends. Not right on the water, but the views are pretty special and it's a great place to be.

Today, just to get out of the house and to get some sun, we took the train to a station just on the far side of the Bridge and then we strolled down to Luna Park, the funfair you can see in the centre of the photo.

As we strolled around, soaking up the atmosphere and making photos of all and sundry (not to mention the stunning views) I made a comment to the effect of "You know people come from all over the world to see this place, and here we are just having a breath of fresh air and a break from the house".

Luna Park has been on that site since 1935 and has only closed once. That was in 1979 when  a fire on the ghost train  killed several people. After this horrible tragedy the park was rebuilt and has been open every day of every year since. Luna Park is one of only two amusement parks in the world that are protected by government legislation. I think that's a really nice thing: it's a low key and some would say old fashioned kind of funfair. And that's just the way the people of Sydney (and tens of thousands of tourists) like it.

So, not bad for a little outing to get some fresh air eh? Oh, I made this photo from the back of the ferry we'd popped aboard to take us across the harbor to get a cup of tea in a harborside cafe.

A good life indeed.
